Matthew de Grood, the man accused of stabbing five people to death in Brentwood in April made a court appearance Friday morning.

de Grood's parents were in the court room when their son appeared via CCTV.

The accused has been undergoing a litany of tests at an Edmonton psychiatric hospital.

The psychiatric report assessing de Grood's mental state is ready, but the details will not be released.

The judge has imposed a temporary publication ban on the psychiatric results, but the news media are arguing for disclosure.  That decision won't be made until October.

The 22-year-old has been charged with five counts of first degree murder in connection with the deaths of Zachariah Rathwell, Kaiti Perras, Jordan Segura, Lawrence Hong, and Joshua Hunter.

The group was celebrating the end of classes at a house party in Brentwood on April 15.

Police say that de Grood had been invited to the party and mingled with the other guests before the stabbings occurred.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for March 2.

Laywers will be back in court next month to discuss the de Grood case, however de Grood himself is not expected back in court until March.
