The preliminary hearing is beginning for Philip Heerema, accused of molesting at least seven boys over the course of nearly two decades while he was a director of the Young Canadians.

The 53-year-old is facing charges of luring, inciting sexual contact and sexual assault.

The hearing is to determine if there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial. Witness testimony is protected under a publication ban.

The preliminary inquiry is scheduled for two weeks but is expected to wrap sooner.

The Young Canadians is a school of performing arts that trains youth to perform at the Grandstand Show at the Calgary Stampede.
