A Calgary man remains in hospital in serious, non-life threatening condition following a violent assault that police believe occurred in the parking lot of a southeast bar.

According to police, mayhem broke out just before closing time in the parking lot of the Over By Stuch Caribbean Restaurant in the 3700 block of Memorial Drive S.E.  One man is believed to have been seriously injured in the chaos.

A long trail of blood extended for nearly 10 blocks tracing a path from the restaurant through the southeast neighbourhood of Fonda, and to a rooming house near the intersection of 7 Ave. and 44 St. S.E.

According to the victim’s roommate, the badly injured man named Mohammed, was greeted at the door by Mohammed’s girlfriend.

“She went to open the main door and he actually fell inside, this is what she told me,” says roommate James Green. “And at first she figures he's drunk and what not, but when she picked him up she noticed he was bleeding all over the place.”

Green, who had been asleep at time of Mohamed’s return home, awoke to the chaotic scene.

“I came out here and there’s blood everywhere.”

Green dialed 911 and handed the phone to Mohammed’s girlfriend.   James says the emergency call handler struggled to understand the frantic girlfriend and he had to takeover the call.

“At approximately 2:15 this morning, paramedics were called to the southeast for reports of an assault,” says Adam Loria of Calgary EMS.  “A male believed to be in his thirties was transported from the southeast location to hospital in serious, non-life threatening condition.”

Mohammed’s injuries may not be life threatening but according to his roommate they'll be life changing.

“I know this much, he's not going to be the same again,” says Green.  “Something really mangled his face.”

Police continue to investigate the Sunday morning assault.  Officers in the district admit they are frequently called to disturbances in the area of this parking lot.

Anyone with infomation connected to the assault is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
