Some parents say their kids are disappointed after the last Disney on Ice show was cancelled on Sunday night.

Meaghan Gray was excited to take her daughter Aubree to Disney on Ice to celebrate her fifth birthday. They had tickets for the last showing before the show was to close out in Calgary.

“I was really excited as it was the day before her birthday and we were able to have a night where her dad was home, her dad works in Calgary and works a lot, so it’s a big deal when she can get time with just me and him alone, so her being so obsessed with princesses, Elsa and Jasmine, she knows them all, we jumped at the opportunity to get front-row tickets,” she said.

But when they got to the Stampede Corral for the show on Sunday night, they discovered it had been cancelled.

“Instant tears in her eyes, it’s hard to think of breaking that news to a 5-year-old,” said Gray. “I know this isn’t the worst thing happening in the world right now, but it’s the worst thing happening in her world.”

The Gray family was not the only ones disappointed. Stephanie LeClare also found herself in a dark, deserted parking lot with her unhappy child.

“Me and my husband panicked, looking at our tickets, wondering if I messed up with the date and we didn’t, the tickets were right, we were at the right place at the right time and nobody was there,” she said.

Both parents said they didn’t get any sort of notice that the show had been cancelled.

“Disney on Ice didn’t put anything out there on social media, Ticketmaster didn’t put anything on social media and when I said I didn’t receive any email saying that it had been cancelled, I got a confirmation email reminding me about my event, but I didn’t get the email saying it was cancelled,” said Gray. “I was just basically told, too bad, and they did what they were willing to do, and that they didn’t refund babysitting and I was left even more frustrated with no answers as to why it was cancelled,”

The families said they have been offered refunds for the tickets, but no explanation as to why the show was cancelled.

CTV Calgary left messages for Feld Entertainment, the company that brought the show to the city, but have not received any information about the cancellation.
