Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a double murder that took place in a supermarket parking lot in southeast Calgary in 2017.

Detectives say the suspect is still in the process of being interviewed about the murders of Colin Reitberger and Anees Amr on May 21, 2017.

The suspect's identity will be released once formal charges have been laid.

Reitberger and Amr were shot and killed in the parking lot of a Superstore grocery store on May 21, 2017.

Christian Joffre Ouellette, 20, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the case last June.

Investigators say the two men were victims of an organized crime group, currently under investigation by ALERT, and while Reitberger was the intended target, Amr was an innocent victim.

Another man, Blaise Delaire, 26, was charged with one count of weapons trafficking on March 1.

Police say that he helped Ouellette obtain the gun used in the murders.

Investigators say that both men are associates of Allistair Chapman, a Calgary man at the head of a cross-border organized crime group that was discovered by ALERT earlier this month.

Officials also say they are still working to identify the driver of a red Dodge Durango that dropped off Ouellette at a gas station following the fatal shootings.

The vehicle is described as:

  • Dodge Durango SLT
  • red
  • 2004-2006 model
  • sunroof
