A teenager is recovering after he was stabbed in the stomach near his high school on Friday afternoon.

Police say a young man was stabbed with a small knife near Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School just before noon.

Investigators say the incident occured in the "smoking pit" off school property but they locked down the school to ensure the safety of other students.

Friends say the victim is Trevor Saile, a student at the school, and that the incident started with an altercation between him and a former student.

Saile was treated by paramedics and his injuries are said to be minor.

Police are still seeking a suspect and say they know who they are looking for.
