The Calgary Police Service is looking to identify a man who rented a pickup truck using fraudulent identification in connection to the ongoing investigation into the 2014 murders of Don and Roxanne Carlson inside their home in Lake Bonavista.

On the afternoon of February 15, 2014, the bodies of 59-year-old Don Carlson and his 56-year-old Roxanne Carlson were located inside their home in the 122000 block of Lake Erie Road Southeast by one of their children. The nature of their deaths has not been released but police have deemed the deaths as homicides.

“In cases like this, there’s technically probably one or maybe two people who know what happened in (the home),” explained CPS Inspector Steven Barlow. “For us to release it will actually hurt our investigation.”

The investigation into the deaths led police to a pickup truck that had been seen in the neighbourhood near the time of the discovery of the bodies. Investigators have determined the truck had been rented by a man using fraudulent identification and credit cards. Police have released a photograph of the person of interest in the hope of identifying the man.

“We’re hoping and actually begging the public to come forward,” said Inspector Barlow. “Understand that we have two people that have been killed and we’re looking for their assistance to, at some point, come forward and tell us  what happened.”

The CPS homicide unit continues to receive tips from the public in connection with the Lake Bonavista deaths. Friends of the Carlsons continue to offer a $25,000 reward for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murders.

"Our families hope and pray every day that justice is done," said Rick Watson, Roxanne Carlson's brother.

"Initially I thought it may have been something to do with their occupations but over time (I've begun) wondering if it was a random attack."

Don Carlson was a manager at Albern Coin & Foreign Exchange for more than 20 years. Roxanne Carlson was a psychologist with the Calgary Board of Education.

Police continue to search for two people of interest who were seen in Lake Bonavista on February 14 and February 15, 2014. Police have released composite sketches of the two men.

Anyone with information about the deaths of the Don and Roxanne Carlson, the identity of the man who rented the pickup truck, or the men in the composite sketches, is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service homicide unit, 403-428-8877, or Crime Stoppers.
