The Alberta government has introduced a new online auction to sell off surplus items which allows users to bid on equipment from their computer or mobile device.
Service Alberta holds public auctions in Calgary and Edmonton to liquidate things like laboratory equipment, electronics, medical supplies, industrial equipment, computers, vehicles, laundry and kitchen equipment, and office furniture.
Now Albertans can view goods and participate in bidding for auction items via the internet from anywhere.
“Everybody enjoys the excitement of stumbling upon a bargain or even a hidden gem. By putting this service online we are expanding our reach and making it easier for more Albertans to participate while also increasing our marketplace to ensure we get maximum value for taxpayers,” said Manmeet S. Bhullar, Minister of Service Alberta .
The item goes to the highest bidder at the time of closing and the purchaser pays for it online through a secure system.
Purchased products are then simply picked up or are shipped out at the buyer’s expense.
The new online service will allow the government to save on shipping costs because it will no longer need to amalgamate the surplus goods at its two main warehouses.
