A snow storm descended on the city and parts of southern Alberta on Monday making roads and sidewalks slick.

Environment Canada issued warnings for several areas in the southern portion of the province and wind gusts measured between 70 km/h and 120 km/h throughout the day.

Heavy snowfall hit the mountain parks and serveral other areas also experienced significant amounts of snow.

Ponoka RCMP issued an advisory against travel on Highway 2 between Millet and Red Deer and say heavy snow is affecting visibility and there is also black ice in some sections.

Similar advisories are also in affect for the QEII Highway south of Red Deer.

City police have responded to about 150 crashes since 7:00 a.m. and most were non-injury.

No highways in Alberta have been closed so far, but many roads are snow covered and drivers are advised to take it easy and drive to conditions.
