Displaced students from Willow Park School, which was severely damaged by fire earlier this week, will be temporarily relocated while their repairs are being conducted, the CBE says.

The Calgary Board of Education made the announcement on Friday after discussing the topic at a meeting with parents on Thursday night.

A fire severely damaged the building on October 9, destroying one classroom and causing extensive damage throughout the remainder of the school.

In their meeting, the CBE said that preliminary assessments have been done on the building and they indicate that significant damage has been inflicted to the structure.

In addition to the classroom gutted by fire, three more have been structurally compromised.

All of the contents, furniture, and equipment at the school will require cleaning and all the ceiling tiles, fixtures, and lockers may need to be totally replaced.

The HVAC systems will also need to be cleaned, the CBE says.

While this work is taking place, students of the school will be moved to the Viscount Bennett Centre, located at 2519 Richmond Rd. S.W., to continue their classes as soon as possible.

The CBE has no firm start date, but hope that the students will be able to return to classes by the middle of next week.

Officials say that transportation will be provided to the school and any students who did not originally need bus service to Willow Park but now require the service to get to Viscount Bennett will have it provided at no charge.

The CBE says they are working with their insurance company to determine the extent of the repair work.

No damage estimate has been released at this time.

The CPS is still looking for suspects in the incident involving Willow Park School.
