Members of the Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit have apprehended two men in connection to the Chestermere shooting death of 24-year-ol Pirtpal Singh Jhajj.

In May of 2007, Jhajj was fatally shot at a location in Chestermere when gunfire was exchanged between two groups of males in moving vehicles that started at Sunset Beach and continued along the Trans-Canada Highway.

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection to the death.

Sanjit Ranhu, a 30-year-old man from Drumheller, faces charges of:

  • First degree murder
  • Discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life (two counts)

Amaritpal Singh, a 29-year-old resident of Surrey, B.C, faces a charge of first degree murder.

The two men remain in police custody where they await their respective court appearances.

RCMP say the arrests are the result of several years of perseverence combined with added attention to details on the part of investigators.
