An officer is bruised but recovering after Calgary Police say she was punched in the face by a woman at the Stampede Grandstand Sunday night.

During the melee the officer used her Taser, but the weapon did not deploy.

Around ten o'clock Sunday night police were called to a disturbance at the grandstand. Two officers responded and they encountered a group of four people. Police say one of them, an intoxicated woman, became violent.

Police say the officer was punched in the face, sustaining injuries to her nose and was also grabbed by the throat.

According to police, the officer deployed her Taser at the woman, but for some reason one of the prongs didn't attach, and the woman did not receive a shock.

Police and security personnel were able to subdue and arrest the woman along with a man she was with at the Grandstand

Staff Sergeant Andy Comber says the officer was being assaulted and was justified in using her Taser, however as part of standard protocol, the incident will be reviewed. "Because a Taser was used or pointed at a person, that use of force will be submitted and her commander will review it. It will also go to the use of force committee."

The woman and man arrested at the grandstand face a number of charges including resisting arrest and assaulting police officer.
