A large crowd gathered outside the home of a 12-year-old Calgary girl fighting a rare form of brain cancer, to show her and her loved ones that she is not alone in her battle.
Natasha Gould was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of brain cancer nearly a year ago.
Gould has always been vocal about her diagnosis and took every chance she could to raise awareness about her disease, writing blogs and even speaking at many school rallies.
The girl has also been passionate about cheerleading, which has brought her competitive awards and even recognition when Jamaican pop singer Omi invited her and her cheerleading team on stage to perform his hit ‘Cheerleader’ during a concert.
Now, Natasha’s parents say that her health has taken a turn for the worse. She can no longer speak or walk and is now being fed through a tube.
They say doctors have told them that Natasha only has a few weeks left to live.
They thanked everyone for their continued support and prayers, but hope that Natasha’s message of awareness continues to be heard.
“She really connected with a mission to bring a greater awareness. We really need to do more,” said Bill Gould, Natasha’s father.
Thursday night’s vigil was the first of series of weekly events they plan to hold outside their home located at 244 Sierra Morena Place S.W. in the community of Signal Hill.
A couple of online fundraisers have been started to help the family with the costs of caring for her.
