The family and friends of a 19-year-old man who was killed in an October impaired driving crash held a vigil in his honour on Sunday afternoon.
Shiraz Shermohammad was killed when the vehicle he was in with his parents and sister was t-boned by an SUV while in the intersection of Metis Trail and Country Hills Boulevard N.E. in October.
Police say the other driver was impaired and ran the red light.
The victim’s sister said that the experience unfortunately taught her the tragic result of driving drunk.
“People have to really understand that I lost my brother because someone drank and drove. It hurts. It literally shatters a family and that’s not fair. You drink, you should really consider other ways, you know go with a friend, take a taxi or something, don’t just drive drunk,” said Tahnez Shermohammad.
Charges are pending against a 28-year-old woman who was driving the SUV.
