Units with the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team are investigating after a man was shot by police during an attempted bank robbery on Christmas Day in Vegreville.

At about 9:05 a.m. on December 25, RCMP were called to the TD Bank in Vegreville for a possible robbery.

When they arrived on scene, RCMP were confronted by a man, and according to police, an incident occurred which resulted in the man being shot.

Police say the shooting was related to certain situational factors but are not going into any further detail.

The man's injuries are not considered life-threatening. No other members of the public or RCMP members were hurt in the incident.

ASIRT is taking over the investigation.

Vegreville is located about 103 km east of Edmonton.
