A 30-year-old man faces charges in connection with Friday’s late night crash on Highway 27 east of Sundre that claimed the life of a local motorcyclist.

According to RCMP, an eastbound car crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man from Sundre, was airlifted to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary where he succumbed to his injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.

The driver of the car was arrested at the crash scene and RCMP launched an investigation into suspected impairment.

Sean Terrance Letwin of Beaverdell, British Columbia has been charged with:

  • impaired driving causing death
  • operating a motor vehicle causing death with blood-alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit
  • operating a motor vehicle while unauthorized

Letwin has been released on cash bail under the condition he abstains from both driving and consuming alcohol. The accused is scheduled to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on May 16, 2016.
