Patients looking for a family doctor in the Calgary area now have an easier time locating the perfect medical professional to match their needs.
A new website, launched on Monday, allows patients to search physicians and clinics in and around the city to find one accepting new patients.
The website can be found at www.calgaryareadocs.com and the same services can also be accessed by phone by calling Health Link at 811.
Officials say the new tool makes it easier than ever before for patients to access regular medical services.
“The Find a Doctor website makes it easier and quicker for patients to find a family doctor in the Calgary area,” says Dr. Linda Slocombe, medical director for Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network in a release. “Research shows that patients who regularly visit a family doctor are healthier and live longer. We hope this website encourages people living in the Calgary area to make their family’s health a priority and ensure they have access to a family doctor.”
“Family physicians play a key role in keeping Albertans healthy and they are often a patient’s first line of contact with the health system,” says Dr. Francois Belanger, Vice President and Medical Director for AHS Calgary Zone. “This website is an easy and reliable way for the public to find a family doctor and ensure they and their loved ones receive the care they need.”
According to the Alberta Health Services, there are over 239 family doctors accepting new patients in the city.
Over 1,200 doctors are listed in the directory, which is updated once and month and verified on a weekly basis.
The website serves urban Calgary as well as surrounding areas such as Airdrie, Okotoks, Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise.
