Calgary firefighters came together to honour 43 of their colleagues who have died in the line of duty and invited the public to join them at a public ceremony on Tuesday.

The memorial ceremony recognizes the sacrifices made by firefighters and also honours those who have succumbed to illness as a result of their duties.

The Calgary Fire Department Honour Guard and Pipes and Drums led a march down Stephen Avenue Walk to City Hall before the ceremony.

The service  was held at the police officers and firefighters tribute plaza in front of Calgary’s City Hall from noon until 1:00 p.m.

Flags at all Calgary fire stations will also be lowered to half-mast for the day to honour the department’s fallen members.
