The City of Calgary is the world’s fifth most liveable city, according to a independent report conducted in association with the Economist magazine.
Calgary ties for fifth with Adelaide, Australia, and joins Vancouver (third) and Toronto (fourth) in the three Canadian cities making the top ten.
The rankings take into account 30 factors, including quality of health care, environment, education, culture, and the threat of military conflict.
140 cities were ranked in the list.
A majority of the other cities in the top ten were all in Australia including the first place holder, Melbourne.
Damascus has seen its score take a rapid downward turn due to recent events.
The capital city of Syria placed 140th on this year's list while in 2008, it ranked 114th.
