The Calgary Zoo has welcomed a surprise new addition, a unique black bear with a white colouring, which the facility hopes to use to teach visitors of the importance of respecting wildlife.
According to the Zoo’s Facebook page, the zoo welcomed the new animal on August 31.
The bear is one of two two-and-a-half-year-old bears that were relocated away from Elkford, B.C. by conservation officers last year.
This particular bear returned to the town a few weeks ago and was interfering with public safety.
The zoo says that they are happy to be able to be in the position to save a young bear like this from being destroyed.
They say the bear has settled in very well at the Animal Health Centre.
Officials say they hope the bear will help educate visitors about the importance of respecting wildlife and making sure their actions don’t result in the creation of more problem bears in the future.
