For years the hamlet of Bragg Creek has kept its small-town feel with few chain stores; but a new neighbour is moving in.

Bragg Creek will soon be home to a Carl's Jr. It will be taking over a space near the Esso gas station.

The American-based fast food chain will take over the gas station's unused mechanic bays.

Reaction among residents is mixed.

“It’ll be good for something a little cheaper,” says Connor Griffin. “They have the Subway and then something along with the Subway will be good.”

But Ashley Nishihata says a Carl’s Jr. just doesn’t belong in Bragg Creek.

“That’s really upsetting cause everything here is so cute,” said Nishihata. “There’s a look and Carl’s Jr doesn’t fit into that look. I’m not happy about that.”

Carl's Jr. was turned down once before by Rocky View County. The Development Authority said the chain did not preserve the rural character of Bragg Creek and would be more appropriate in a higher intensity area. The Development Authority also had concerns about the impact the restaurant would have on pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area.

However, the Development Appeal Board recently reversed that decision and the project has been given the green light.
