The Calgary Fire Department is investigating the cause of a large fire that broke out in Lower Mount Royal Wednesday night.

It happened at 2005 9 Street S.W. at about 11:30 p.m.

By the time crews arrived, flames were leaping high into the air.

The fire department says the blaze happened at an empty lot that was full of construction materials.

It initially looked like the fire was in a house, but it was soon determined to be garbage and debris.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

No one was injured.
