In 2009 a small group of cyclists in Toronto got together and started Cycle for Sight. In support the Foundation Fighting Blindness

In 2010 Ottawa was added and in 2014, Langley, BC began a ride too. Together these three events have raised more than $2.2 million dollars to support research into genetic eye diseases.

Each one-day ride is strapped with full service (EMS, catered rest stops, en-route mechanical and a spectacular finish line party) on their 50K, 85K and 100K routes.

This will be a scenic and challenging ride through Turner Valley and Black Diamond areas of Calgary. Participants also receive a swag bag and a race jersey to commemorate their participation.

One of the unique features of this ride is the participation of a number of visually impaired riders and guides on tandem bikes. Many of these riders have been personally affected by the diseases this ride raises funds to fight.

Registration is just $25 and participants are required to fundraise a $500 minimum. All funds raised through the event are in support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ research.

Looking into the causes of and cures for genetic blindness such as age-related Macular Degeneration and Retinitis Pigmentosa, including ongoing research being conducted at the University of Alberta.
