City officials say that while repairs are needed at the Devonian Gardens, they won’t be impacting the public’s enjoyment of the facility.
Crews discovered several leaks had developed in some of the planters that were installed during renovations from 2008 to 2012.
They’ll be working to repair these leaks and say that the Gardens will be open to the public and all event bookings will continue as planned.
In order to further reduce the impact on the public, the planters will be worked on one at a time.
“Devonian Gardens is a popular event space and the work required will be scheduled around bookings,” says Doug Marter, The City of Calgary Parks manager. “To ensure public safety, there may be limited access to areas where repair work is occurring but the gardens remain open for all Calgarians to enjoy. We are committed to minimizing disruption as much as possible.”
All costs of the repairs are covered by the warranty and the original contractor will be conducting all the work.
The Devonian Gardens, located in the downtown Core Shopping Centre, reopened to the public last June.
The four-year, one hectare renovation cost $37M.
The new layout offers three terraces of seating and there is room for a restaurant in the future.
Devonian Gardens is one of North America’s largest indoor gardens and is open daily from 9 to 9.
