Two people are facing charges in connection to an ALERT investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the Lethbridge and Coaldale areas.

ALERT, RCMP and Lethbridge police wrapped up an investigation targeting a suspected fentanyl dealer who was operating in the two communities on December 1st.

Police seized 271 fentanyl pills, a loaded handgun, $13,315 cash proceeds of crime and two vehicles during the investigation.

The handgun was equipped with a prohibited magazine and police say it appears to have been illegally modified with aftermarket parts.

Investigators say the vehicles are worth about $30,000 and that the cars and cash will be referred to civil forfeiture.

“Unfortunately, fentanyl dealers are profiting at the expense of people’s lives. We are all aware of the perils and societal cost of this horrible drug and ALERT will continue to target fentanyl dealers and hold them accountable,” said S/Sgt. Rod Klassen.
