The Government of Alberta has announced that they will be handing out a number of grants to communities to make sure they are protected from the threat of wildfires.

The FireSmart Community Grant program will be doling out $500,000 in funding to support proactive wildfire management actions in municipalities.

The grants will be awarded to communities, municipal districts, counties, Metis Settlements, and registered non-profit societies within the Forest Protection Area.

There will be a maximum of $100,000 for each community.

Over the past 10 years, over $4M in FireSmart grant funding has been provided.

The deadline for applications is October 8, 2014.
