About 1,787 of these products were sold in Canada and 6,400 were sold in the U.S.
These products are small backpacks that are worn by outdoor enthusiasts that contain an airbag which can be inflated through the use of a trigger and help keep the user afloat in an avalanche.
According to the release, the trigger assembly can fail and the airbag would then not deploy.
This poses a risk of death and injury in the event of an avalanche.
People who have bought the avalanche airbags are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Backcountry Access Inc. to obtain a new trigger assembly and instructions on installing it in their unit.
The company can be contacted through email or through various means on their website.
