For the past 20 years, Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) has hosted the annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala to celebrate diversity and the outstanding contributions of immigrants and refugees to Calgary and their community.
“Fostering a Legacy of Excellence” is the chosen theme for the 20th Anniversary of the IDA Gala, which commemorates the success of newcomers in their professional and business endeavors, as well as recognizes the new and innovative ideas immigrants bring to the Calgary community.
"Immigrants of Distinction Awards represent a voice for the immigrant population here in Calgary. I see the immigrant population in Calgary as superheroes since they leave everything behind just to create a wonderful future for their loved ones. This is why the IDA gala is important as it gives the immigrant population the appreciation that they so deserve” says Nilufer Hasanova, Youth Scholarship Recipient, IDA 2015.
Through their skills, passion and vision; the achievements of newcomers have enhanced the cultural, social and economic richness of Calgary allowing us to truly foster a legacy of excellence as a city. Immigrant Services Calgary is eager to celebrate the accomplishments that will emerge from the nominations for the 2016 Immigrants of Distinction Awards.
ISC will be awarding individuals in the following categories:
· Achievement Under 35
· Arts and Culture
· Community Service
· Entrepreneurship and Innovation
· Hadassah Ksienski Lifetime Achievement
· Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
· Organizational Diversity
· Youth Scholarships
Award recipients will be announced at the 20th Annual IDA Gala. Candidates must be nominated by someone other than themselves with the exception of the Youth Scholarship Category.
