A Red Deer man is facing a distracted driving charge after he was caught watching a movie on a laptop while behind the wheel.

The Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit received a complaint about a distracted driver on the QEII Highway near Carstairs at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police say another motorist passed a blue, Chrysler minivan travelling southbound on the highway and noticed the driver was watching a movie on a laptop computer while driving.

The concerned motorist contacted police and an ITU officer was dispatched to look for the minivan.

The van was located near Carstairs and the officer also saw the driver watching the movie while driving.

A 42-year old man from Red Deer was issued a $172 distracted driving ticket.
