Police continue to investigate the brazen smash and grab robbery at Market Mall and believe that they have recovered the vehicle that was used to break through the north entrance.

The theft happened just before 4:00 a.m. on Monday when police responded to numerous intrusion alarms at the mall on Shaganappi Trail N.W.

Police say the theives crashed a vehicle through the north entrance to get inside the mall and then drove through the mall and crashed into the Jewels By Maxime's store.

The thieves then ransacked the store and smashed display cabinets, making off with a significant amount of jewelry.

"Still undetermined what was taken, but right now it looks like a significant amount of jewelry was taken," said S/Sgt Dave Louie.

The thieves then drove away from the scene and police say that the vehicle was likely a white SUV.

A Dodge Journey was recovered by police in Varsity and is being looked over by the CPS Forensic Crime Scenes Unit.

Investigators from District 2 are taking the lead on the investigation and police believe that two offenders were involved.

They are currently reviewing video and working with mall security and the vendor to get a description of the suspects.

Paige O'Neill, a representative of Market Mall says there was no one inside the mall when the robbery occurred. "Fortunately, it was early in the morning so there was no one on site. In a city of this size, things are going to happen. We'll do a debrief to see if there's anything we can do to prevent this."
