Cochrane RCMP were called to investigate a threat made online towards a member of a school in the community west of Calgary on Monday.

At about 11:00 a.m., Cochrane RCMP were advised of a possible threat made towards staff at Mitford Middle School via Snapchat.

Police officers responded to the school and spoke with staff, witnesses and the suspect.

Following the investigation, police found the threats were not substantiated and there was no safety concern.

Police remind all residents to be aware what they post on social media and how certain statements can easily be misinterpreted.

The situation is not the first time police have been called to respond to threats made on social media involving schools in southern Alberta.

Earlier in June, a Cochrane High School student was charged after making a Snapchat threat towards the institution.

Then, on June 14, parents of students at William Aberhart High School in Calgary were alerted to the possible threat of a student bringing a firearm to school.
