The investigation into a hit and run that killed a 20-year-old man last summer is over and police say the man who was identified as being behind the wheel that night has died.

Eliah McEdwards was walking home from the Stampede on July 7th along 16 Avenue NE near Barlow Trail at about 2:30 a.m. when he was hit.

McEdwards was dragged 30 metres and suffered a fatal head injury as a result.

Police found a vehicle of interest in the Vista Heights area about five hours later.

A 37-year old man from Calgary was identified as the driver.  The man killed himself the day after the fatal crash.

McEdwards had recently moved to Calgary from his family's farm in rural Ontario.

His sister posted to Facebook saying that she is relieved to know the man who killed her brother can't hurt anyone else.

Police say the investigation is closed.
