Two men were transported to hospital by ambulance early Saturday morning after attempting to stop an act of vandalism in the city's northeast.

Shortly before 2:00 a.m., EMS and police responded to the 200 block of Madeira Close Northeast following a call to 911 saying there had been a stabbing.

According to police, an unknown number of vandals smashed a car’s window when they were confronted by the owner of the vehicle and at least one other person. During the confrontation, the owner of the car and one other man were stabbed.

The two men, both in their early twenties, were transported from the scene in serious condition. One of the men suffered stab wounds to his torso and arm and was taken to the Foothills Hospital in serious, potentially life threatening condition. The second man was stabbed in the arm and a paramedic crew transported him to the Peter Lougheed Centre in serious, but stable condition.

Police have not located the stabbing suspect and have not released descriptions of the vandals.
