The man accused in a fatal hit and run this summer is expected to appear in a Calgary court on Wednesday morning.

Robert Varley, 58, is charged with the hit and run death of Farida Abdulrahman, who was struck and killed while she was crossing the road at the intersection of Centre Street and 43 Avenue in late July.

Abdulrahman was going home at the time she was hit.

Investigators say that debris that was left behind at the scene led them to Varley’s home.

They say at the time of his arrest, he was originally very evasive, but soon confessed to the crime.

The incident has renewed calls from area residents for the city to do something about the dangerous crossing.
