The City of Calgary and The Calgary Airport Authority have reached an agreement about an airport tunnel.

Once it's complete, the 96 Avenue tunnel will connect Airport Trail and Metis Trail.

The city and the airport will contribute $90-million to the project and will rely on the provincial and federal governments to make up the difference in the $287-million cost.

The city will contribute $50 million and the Calgary Airport Authority will spend $40 million on the project.

In the New Year, the mayor will try to get the province and the feds to contribute $98.6-million each. Mayor Bronconnier hopes to have that money secured by March 1, 2010.

The city has agreed to design and build the tunnel as well as take over the maintenance once the project is completed.
