A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after police deployed a spike belt to bring a stolen vehicle to a stop south of the city on Tuesday night.
The incident began at about 8:00 p.m. when police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near the Drop-in Centre.
The police helicopter monitored the stolen vehicle while officers tried to stop it in downtown Calgary.
The vehicle continued down MacLeod Trail and was involved in at least one collision before it left the city limits.
Okotoks RCMP picked up the pursuit and stopped the vehicle with a spike belt and took the driver into custody with the help of the Calgary Police Canine Unit.
The driver was injured during the takedown and was taken to hospital with serious injuires.
ASIRT was called into investigate and will determine whether the actions of police were lawful and appropriate given the circumstances.
