Calgary police are hoping to learn more about a shooting in the northeast community of Monterey Park once an autopsy is completed later on Monday.
At about 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to the alleyway in the 100 block of Del Ray Road N.E.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man’s body lying in the alleyway in front of a vehicle.
Investigators say the victim was shot, and audio of the shooting was even captured on an iPad that a number of children were using in the area when the incident took place.
Winston Khan said his grandchildren were recording videos with their iPad outside when they came running back inside.
The video they captured had the sound of at least three gunshots.
Khan told CTV that he stayed inside his home until he noticed several police vehicles in his neighbourhood.
“I went to the backyard and I looked out in the back lane and I saw a body covered with a yellow tarp," he said. "Finally one officer came up and he said ‘it’s a body’.”
The area is also no stranger to violence this year. In August, 27-year-old David Quach was shot in his driveway and later died in hospital.
Police say the shooting does not appear to be random and they have no suspects at this time.
An autopsy will be conducted later on Monday.
