The Quebec man who survived over a week in the backcountry is talking about the ordeal.
Gilles Blackburn and his wife Marie Josee Fortin went out-of-bounds on February 15 during a ski trip at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
Fortin died of hypothermia before rescuers found the couple on February 23.
Blackburn admits the couple made a mistake but says his S-O-S signs should have been followed up on.
In an interview Tuesday, Blackburn said local rescuers shoulder some of the blame.
"I'm responsible for the 15th and the 16th. I'm not on the 17th or any time afterward. That was them."
Blackburn says he make a total of five S-O-S signs in the snow.
He ate nothing for nine days and gave the two granola bars the couple was carrying to his wife.
Blackburn says he moved because he wanted to be closer to the flight path of the helicopters he could see in the distance.
Funeral services will be held for Fortin in Montreal this weekend.
