An assistant basketball coach at the University Of Calgary has been charged with sexual exploitation after a complaint was filed with police.

Airdrie RCMP say a 25-year-old assistant basketball coach with the Junior Dinos program was charged after they received a complaint from a young person on July 1 and began to investigate.

Police arrested Kristie Sheils on Monday and charged her with one count of sexual exploitation of a young person. 

Police say the name of the victim, who is a youth, cannot be released.

Sheils made a court appearance on Tuesday and was released on a recognizance order.

She must abide by these release conditions which include; no contact with the victim, no contact with children under 18 unless an adult is present and she can’t be employed or volunteer in a situation that would put her in a position of trust or authority to children under the age of 18.

The name of the victim, who is a youth, cannot be released.

Sheils makes her first appearance in Calgary Provincial Court on July 14.
