People who live in southeast Calgary will be enjoying better access to Stoney Trail even though the grand opening of the ring road has been pushed back.
Construction has been causing delays in the area for several weeks for drivers with lots of obstructions.
Access is now open from McKenzie Lake and Cranston Blvds.
A new intersection is also in place.
Police say it continues to be an active construction zone.
On Monday, it was announced that the southeast section of Stoney Trail running from 17 Ave. to Macleod Trail would be delayed for at least a week.
That’s because of some delays in the paving of some on-ramps and concrete testing and safety audits haven’t been done.
Transportation Minister Ric McIver says the contractor responsible for the project will be fined $70,000 per day as an incentive to get the project completed.
He adds that this is the first time that a P3 project has run behind schedule.
