Despite a plea from city officials not to hoard drinking water, bottled water is a rare commodity in the City of Lethbridge.

The community is heading into the third day of a state of emergency and boil water advisory..

The order includes the communities of Coalhurst, Coaldale, and Picture Butte.

Bottled water is now flying off shelves as people are racing to stock up for the long haul.

The city was forced to shut down the water treatment plant because of the high turbidity of the Oldman River was making it very difficult to treat properly.

Meanwhile, more surgeries and medical procedures have been cancelled because doctors are unable to sterilize equipment needed.

They are reaching out to facilities in Medicine Hat and Calgary to help with the sterilization process.
