CALGARY –  Conservative Greg McLean has been elected in Calgary Centre.

Calgary Centre encompasses the downtown core along with communities south to Glenmore Trail and west to Sarcee Trail.  The riding includes the communities of Beltline, Mission, Eau Claire and Elbow Park.

Calgary Centre is the only riding in Calgary held by a Liberal incumbent. Kent Hehr was victorious in 2015 with roughly 47 per cent of the vote. Hehr was named Minister of Veterans Affairs and later shuffled to Minister of Sport and Persons with Disability before resigning from a cabin position in 2018 due to allegations of workplace misconduct. The claims stemmed from when he was an MLA for Calgary-Buffalo.

Calgary Centre riding profile

The riding is historically conservative and held by the Tories’ Lee Richardson for four consecutive elections from 2004 to 2011. It was also former Prime Minister and PC Leader Joe Clark’s seat.
