The power of the people has never been more evident in Calgary than over the past few days and people are stepping up to help their neighbours and communities cleanup the mess left behind from the muddy waters.

Thousands of Calgarians packed in McMahon Stadium on Monday morning to volunteer their services to help with cleanup efforts around the city.

The volunteers will be knocking on doors in previously evacuated communities to provide residents with information packages to help them transition back into their homes.

The packages will have information on flood recovery and outline the community resources that are available.

About 2500 people showed up and were bused out to the communities.
