RCMP in Canmore is investigating after a child was alleged assaulted by a man who lured her away from a residential area on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to a residence in the community at about 4:15 p.m. and say a 10-year-old girl was approached by a man outside a home who told her that his cat had kittens nearby and asked if she wanted to see them.

The girl went with the man and police say he then grabbed her by the waist and put his other hand over her mouth.

The little girl struggled and was able to get away.

Police and a canine unit searched the area but did not find the suspect.

  • Caucasian male
  • 18 to 20 years of age
  • 178 to 188 cm or 5’10” to 6’2” tall
  • Very slim
  • Short medium brown hair
  • Seen riding an orange mountain bike
