A rainfall warning from Environment Canada is remaining in place on Tuesday morning, covering many areas in southern Alberta.

The City of Calgary says they’ve closed the Glenmore Reservoir and is releasing water to prepare for more rain coming on Wednesday.

For the duration, residents are being told to stay off the water until officials sound the all clear.

While there are rainfall warnings in place, experts say Calgary will be saved from the brunt of the storm.

Meterologist David Spence says the city will receive between 30 and 50 mm by Wednesday.

Officials say that because of last year’s flooding and the heightened anxiety of residents, they are trying to get as much information out as possible, as quickly as possible.

However, the city says that the flow of the rivers is within normal range for this time of year.

“The flow you see on the Elbow River right now is what we expect to maintain through the event,” says Rick Valdarchi, Calgary’s river flood mitigation program manager. “So it’ll perhaps ease residents’ fears to know the flow you see now is what we’ll maintain.”

He added that the only closures Calgarians could see would be some closed pathways along the Bow and Elbow Rivers.
