The electronic fare card that will provide Calgarians with a new way to pay for rides on transit finally has a name.

Connect was chosen by voters out of two other top names, Range and Energy out of a list of a total 5,000 names submitted.

A draw will be held among the 18 people who submitted the name Connect into the competition.

The grand prize winner of six months of free transit and the remaining 17 entrants will receive two months of free transit.

In addition all of the entrants into the contest will have a chance to win one of ten prizes of one month of free transit.

Electronic fare cards will make things easier for Calgarians to pay for rides.

They will be able to reload the card online and payment is as simple as tapping the card at a reader on buses or CTrain stations.

The card will become available for use in June 2012.
