The regional winners for the 2014 Edward R. Murrow Awards were announced on Tuesday morning and CTV Calgary has taken home two of the coveted broadcasting honours.

The awards recognize outstanding achievement in electronic journalism by radio, television and online news organizations from around the world. This year 661 regional awards were handed out in 14 categories.

CTV Calgary’s website, calgary.ctvnews.ca, won the Digital Media Award in the Large Market Television category for the International region.

Our web team of Colleen Schmidt, Michael Franklin, Ryan White, Karen Owen, Andrea MacLean and other contributors in our newsroom continue to lead the way in digital news delivery in Canada.

CTV Calgary also took home an Edward R. Murrow Award for News Documentary, in the same international category, for “Water at the Door”.

The one hour documentary, co-produced by Rylee Carlson and Erin Lawrence, chronicles last June’s devastating flood in High River.

The documentary was edited by Jack Burmeister and was pulled together with footage that was shot by CTV Calgary’s talented videographers on the ground and in the air.

“Water at the Door” also took home the Large Market - Dave Rogers Award – Long Feature at the RTDNA Awards earlier this month.

Regional winners will now advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards, which will be determined in May.

CTV Calgary is honoured to receive these prestigious awards and congratulates all the other entries and winners.
