For those displaced Calgarians who didn’t get the chance to pick up their flood relief payment cards from the Alberta government, they’ll have another chance on Tuesday.

On Monday, thousands of evacuees lined up at four local schools to receive cheques and pre-loaded debit cards aimed at providing emergency funds for people who’ve been forced to leave their homes after the flooding in late June.

Evacuees who’ve been out of their home for seven days or more qualify for the payments.

Every adult will be given $1,250 and every child will get $500.

The funds are meant to help cover regular living costs.

Organizers say that anyone looking to claim the pre-loaded cards should bring along ID confirming their residence.

“If they’re registered with the Red Cross, if they have any documentation with them, if they can bring that in as well,” said Miles Partington, regional operations coordinator, Government of Alberta.

The location will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

They’re located at:

  • Bowness High School, 4627 -77 St. N.W.
  • Connaught School, 1121- 12 Ave. S.W.
  • Queen Elizabeth High School, 512 - 18 St. N.W.
  • Ernest Manning High School, 20 Springborough Blvd. S.W.

There are also provincial payments that homeowners will be able to apply for starting on Tuesday.

Residents in the affected flood areas are allowed to make an application for up to $10,000 in relief money to replace essential items that are not covered by insurance.

The Government isn’t requiring municipalities to apply on behalf of residents and they also aren’t looking for any visual inspections of damage before the payouts are issued.

Residents with successful applications can expect payouts within two weeks.

Applications can be made at alberta.ca.
