The Trans Canada Highway into B.C. has now reopened Tuesday, after being closed for nearly 24 hours because of a high avalanche risk.
Highway 1 was closed in both directions from Lake Louise to Field on Monday morning due to a high risk of avalanche and heavy snowfall in the area.
Drivers were able to get through via Highway 95 and 93 through Golden, Radium, and Castle Junction.
There’s just one lane open on the Yellowhead Highway, west of the B.C.-Alberta border.
That route was closed on Monday near Mount Robson Provincial Park after a huge avalanche covered the road.
The slide covered a section of highway about 38 m wide, with snow and debris about 60 cm deep.
No one was injured and no cars were buried in the slide.
There is no information on when that highway will be full reopened.
Travellers should also be aware that Maligne Lake Road near Jasper National Park is closed due to high avalanche risk.
