As strange and disturbing as it may seem there is a long history of people, either with a grudge, or desperate for attention, who have tampered with food.
Calgary's Police Chief Rick Hanson says the mindset of individuals who tamper with food is puzzling.
"So is it frustrating because some people chose to get some kind of a thrill out of this, absolutely it is," said Hanson.
There have been other food tampering cases in Canada.
Last year in a family in Guelph, Ontario cooked up sausages, and only then discovered a long pin inside one of them.
In Vancouver, animal rights activists sent letters to grocery stores claiming to have poisoned Christmas turkeys.
An Ottawa woman also found numerous straight pins in her cooked turkey.
